“Aren’t the Sprinter vans way more expensive to maintain than the alternatives?” It’s a question we get often. Here’s the deal. We obtain 500,000+ miles worth of operating data every year from our rental fleet and these vehicles are resilient. We RARELY have to address issues outside of the scheduled maintenance items. Oh, and the new Sprinter vans only need to be serviced every 20,000 miles. Yes, that’s right…You can drive almost twice as far as the competing gas vans between service cycles. Sprinter operating costs are a lot closer to the alternatives than you may think.
Legendary Performance
The Sprinter offers two engine configurations – both 4-cylinder turbo diesel options. The Standard Output option offers plenty of power to climb steep grades and get where you need to go. However, if you’re looking for optimal towing capacity, we recommend the High Output option, which offers 330 ft-lb of torque. Fully loaded, you can expect the Sprinter to react quickly off the line with smooth, optimally distributed power.
The newly minted All Wheel Drive Sprinters offer an innovative dynamic torque distribution system that makes for smooth on-road performance and highly capable off-road conditions. Our team has stress-tested the AWD and 4×4 systems in Southern Utah, and can confidently say the AWD system is no less capable than the outgoing 4×4 system.
Additionally, the Sprinter offers industry-leading ground clearance and fuel economy – up to 21 miles per gallon – which makes it the perfect option for those looking for a rig that is as capable as it is efficient.
Resale Value
When making an investment of this size, it’s important to consider depreciation and resale value. The Mercedes Sprinter offers industry-leading value retention, making it the smart platform to build our campervans on. There’s no getting around depreciation, but your dollar goes further with the Sprinter chassis.
Useful Life
If you follow the recommended maintenance cycle, the Sprinter vans are known to run for a LONG TIME. They weren’t dubbed “Million Mile Sprinters” for no reason. The useful life of the Sprinter van is known to be about 1.5x to 2x longer than the standard gasoline alternatives. By the way, that longer useful life contributes to the higher resale value!
Safety and Comfort
We get questions like “How does it drive?” and “What’s the difference between a Sprinter and Transit?” frequently. It’s quite simple, the difference is similar to the difference between driving a new Ford SUV and a new Mercedes SUV.
